Businesses must unite to tackle growth barriers

A local logistics specialist is urging businesses in the sector to unite to tackle mutual barriers to growth and share key opportunities for success.

Clipper, who specialise in high value and retail logistics believes that a strong level of participation will facilitate a new way of working for the Tees Valley.

Carl Muir, head of Port Centric Logistics at Clipper Group commented: “The industry is caught within a real sandstorm of tough economic conditions and minimal regional funding coupled with rising fuel costs and rapidly advancing technologies.

“If we can come together in an open forum to share best practice and confront challenges head on as a combined force, I believe that we can address the issues we face now and ready ourselves for the future.”

Tees Valley Unlimited have offered their support to the idea of a cohesive economy, and will be hosting a number of sector specific workshops at Teesside University to help businesses taken advantage of available opportunities. They will include an insight into Heathcare and Advanced Manufacturing.

Carl continued: “While we operate across different levels of scale, we share the same objectives and across the supply chain we can only see real success if companies regardless of size can offer a similar level of service.

“We need a capable workforce, we all need to minimise our carbon miles and we all need to maximise the support that’s available - not just for the sector but for the Tees Valley as a whole.”

The TVU workshops are free to attend with findings due to be published in April. The intelligence
will direct the work of the Local Enterprise Partnership and be used on a national scale to influence Central Government.
