Gentoo Director recieves MBE

The Director of Gentoo Green has been honoured with an MBE for her services to reducing fuel poverty and carbon emissions in social housing.

Sally Hancox personally received her MBE from the Prince of Wales, which recognised her dedication to ensuring that Gentoo remains at the forefront of the sustainability agenda.

On receiving her CBE, Sally said: “When I received the letter asking if I would accept my honour, I was humbled and amazed that someone like me had been nominated for just doing a job that I love.

“The texts, emails, cards and calls started to arrive on January 1 and are still coming! People I worked with years ago, colleagues and friends, even my mum’s hairdresser has sent best wishes. Everyone has been so kind.

Along with her 14 strong team, Sally constantly develops the business to ensure it makes the most of green thinking and technology.

Sally continued: “Receiving my award from The Prince of Wales was a once in a lifetime experience and we chatted for a short time.

“The whole day was focussed on real people and the great things that they do in their every day lives. Being around these individuals was a truly wonderful experience and I am so proud to have been part of it.”

Peter Walls, Chief Executive of Gentoo Group added: “Sally is an inspiration to employees across the business both internally and externally. In being passionate about saving the planet and by using that passion and enthusiasm she believes we can really make a difference. Well done!”
