Tyneside waste firm grow with acquisiton
South Tyneside waste management firm O’Brien Waste Recycling Solutions has acquired a Sunderland skip hire firm.
O’Brien’s have taken ownership of Rocktop Waste Management and now plan to open offices and a call centre on the firm’s site on the south side of the Queen Alexandra Bridge.
The move will mean improved access to any part of the city, enabling the company to build on its current list of Wearside clients which includes Sunderland University, Sunderland College and Sunderland AFC.
Existing Rocktop staff will join O’Brien, as new jobs are also set to be created at the forthcoming call centre.
O’Brien plan to expand on Rocktop’s skip hire service, as well as diversifying into confidential shredding, bins and front end loaders, as well as offering its full range of additional waste management services.
Nathan O’Brien, director of waste management at the family-run company, said: “We feel it is vital to employ staff from the local area who know what the people and businesses of Sunderland want.
“The new site will also be open to local businesses to deliver their waste rather than hire a skip. We feel this adds value to our current service as not everyone has enough waste for a skip, so we provide the chance to deliver this direct to us.
“To coincide with our move into the city we are offering any business a free waste survey to see if we can actually save them money and improve their recycling at the same time.”
