Consumer are feeling confident

A new survey has indicated that UK consumer confidence high a nine month high in March.

Despite this, the confidence index of 53 is still well below the long term average of 76. This contrasts sharply with official GDP figures released yesterday, which showed the UK returning to recession. So how should we respond to these conflicting figures? Yes, we are still facing an uncertain economic future, but if consumers are going out and buying surely things can’t be as bad as the numbers indicate?
