Hotel raises its glass to brand new restaurant

A County Durham hotel is launching a new fine dining restaurant which will serve quality wines from around the world as part of a major refurbishment project.

The restaurant at Hall Garth Hotel, formerly known as Hugo’s, will officially become the WineGlass on May 3rd, serving Michelin-standard food that is renowned for its intense flavours.

In addition to serving 40 bespoke quality wines by the glass to suit all tastes, and hosting various wine-tasting events, the WineGlass menu will offer a good selection of seasonal dishes and the staff will be able to recommend appropriate wines to compliment the food.

The WineGlass, which has been rolled out across all the hotels in the Sonoma Group, has been inspired by the Group’s award-winning executive chef Daniel Galmiche, whose skills and expertise earned him a Michelin star for the Vineyard Group, the parent company.

Karl Rochford is to be head chef at Hall Garth’s brand new restaurant – having gained experience from working at Hugo’s for the last 2 years and other various restaurants in the North East – alongside pastry chef Judita Mileriene.

Karl said: “I’m really pleased to have been appointed as head chef at the WineGlass.

“My main aim will be to set and maintain a Rosette standard for the restaurant, but I’m also hoping that introducing the WineGlass here will provide more of a focus on food at Hall Garth. It would be great for the restaurant to become more of a destination for local people to come for a meal, rather than just a facility for guests and members.”

The introduction of the WineGlass at Hall Garth is just one of many exciting changes taking place after new general manager Pam Mooney was appointed to help improve the hotel’s services for both guests and members.

She has already stepped into her new role by bringing the beauty rooms in-house and appointing beauty manager Angela Normington to oversee the hotel’s spa facilities.

Pam said: “It’s really exciting to finally be introducing the WineGlass here at Hall Garth.

“After receiving a positive response from moving the hotel’s beauty rooms in-house, we’re hoping that this development will also help to attract new visitors and diners and offer them a completely new and enjoyable dining experience.”

The WineGlass will officially open at Hall Garth on May 3rd. James Hocking, director of wine for Vineyard Group, will be attending the event to provide his expertise during the wine-tasting session.
