Humber Gateway appointment for Steel River Consultants

Health and safety consultancy, Steel River Consultants (SRC) has been appointed to provide its services at one of the UK’s largest offshore wind farms, Humber Gateway.

The Teesside based company will provide CDM (construction design and management) and health and safety support on a three year appointment by energy group E.ON to the scheme off the Yorkshire coast, north of the mouth of the river Humber.

The ground breaking Humber Gateway wind farm, will consist of a 73-turbine array that will generate up to 219MW of electricity, capable of producing enough energy to power up to 170,000 homes.

The wind farm is the first offshore scheme to be given consent since December 2008 and completion is expected in spring 2015.

Managing director of Steel River Consultants, Graham Tyerman said,

“This latest contract win reflects SRC’s ability to deliver large scale, quality health and safety services to the renewables sector through our reputable in-house knowledge and expertise. It is great to be working with a renowned company like E.ON and we welcome the challenges associated with a pioneering project of this size. Working with an organisation at the forefront of innovation, is of huge importance to our business.”

Matthew Swanick, Humber Gateway project manager at E.ON said,

“We’re pleased to announce the appointment of Steel River Consultants to assist us with delivering this important and prestigious scheme, following a highly competitive tender process. We were first introduced to SRC at last year’s Crown Estates supply chain event, which enables all those involved in developing offshore wind sites to identify opportunities to do business.

“I have complete confidence in their specialist knowledge and experience working alongside us, the project will be on target to play a vital role in the fight against climate change.”

Since the company’s creation in August 2010, SRC has secured significant project wins across the construction, engineering and renewables sectors, providing CDM and health and safety consultancy support for Scottish and Southern Electric at Aldbrough and MPIC part of MPIO, operator of the world’s largest wind turbine installation vessel.
