Newcastle College to officially open its Energy Academy
Thursday 10 May will see the official opening of Newcastle College’s Energy Academy, a new multi-million pound facility that provides a centre of innovation, training and development for the energy sector.
This keynote event will bring together employers, key players and stakeholders from a wide spectrum of the energy sector to experience the facility first hand and see the benefits it will bring to businesses in the north east.
The opening will showcase how employers can access a much needed training facility that will help them to train, recruit and retain highly skilled workers. A key role for the centre will be the provision of higher level skills and specialist training that meets the needs of regional employers.
On the day delegates will hear from distinguished guest speakers from government and industry on their first visit to the north east:
- Tim Yeo MP, President of the Renewable Energy Association (REA) and Chair of the Energy and Climate Change Select Committee
- Walt Patterson, independent international analyst and writer on energy and environment
About the Academy
The Academy was developed with support and involvement of major employers in the energy sector, including, Shepherd Offshore, Duco Ltd and Wellstream. The majority of the funding was provided by the college with additional contribution from One North East and Newcastle and North Tyneside Councils.
The 20,000 sq ft Academy gives employers dedicated facilities to help upskill their current workforce and the opportunity to use the facilities and equipment for their own research and development purposes. Located on the north bank of the Tyne, it can only further strengthen the developing renewable cluster in that area and that of the wider region.
