Public sector strikes

400,000 Public Sector workers are expected to go on strike today, as part of an ongoing dispute with the Government over proposed pension changes.

While many union members feel that the changes will force them to work longer for a lower pension, the Government say that the current pension schemes are unfair and unaffordable because people are living longer.

While their anger is understandable, their decision to strike come at a time when the country is struggling financially, and strikes will do little to help this. Furthermore, many in the private sector do not even have a pension scheme to support them through old age. So who is right?
