Durham Tees airport announces new marketing partnership

Durham Tees Valley Airport is celebrating the launch of a new partnership set to improve global links from the North East.

The airport, along with local authority partners and Tees Valley Unlimited, has joined forces with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines to highlight how easy it is for businesses looking to improve their global reach. KLM currently operate 3 flights per day to Amsterdam Airport Schphol hub airport.

Earlier in the year the airport faced an uncertain future, but its future was secured after Peel Investments (DTVA), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Peel Group acquired a majority share in the airport. This is the first initiative to be announced since continuation of operations and business at the airport was confirmed.

Commenting on the launch of the marketing campaign, the Airport’s recently appointed chairman Robert Hough explained: “We always knew there was tremendous local pride in the airport and since February we have built on that, establishing close links with many different partners and interests, including our local authorities and Tees Valley Unlimited.

“We all recognise that one of our most important assets is the long-standing commitment of KLM to Durham Tees Valley and the importance of their service to the area’s economy.”

Added Vincent Kas, Commercial Director for Air France-KLM UK and Ireland “The World on Your Doorstep campaign heralds a new and intensified cooperation between KLM and Durham Tees Valley Airport.

“The airport is a key asset for the region and KLM offers passengers three times daily quick
and hassle-free connections to its extensive worldwide network.

“KLM has historic ties with the region that hark back to 1974. The new ownership of the airport means a renewed partnership with KLM and local stakeholders which will further consolidate KLM’s leading position in the North East.”

The Air France/KLM group operates flights from 14 cities in the UK to their hubs in Paris and Amsterdam and is continuously investing in expanding its worldwide network.

KLM’s latest new destination is Lusaka, the Zambian capital, which will be offered through Amsterdam Schiphol airport from May 15.
