North East businesses’ chance to discover university collaboration

North East businesses are to be given access to the University’s cutting-edge expertise to solve problems and explore new technologies, to help growth.

Newcastle University, Newcastle Science City, the Technology Strategy Board and Enterprise Europe Network are joining forces to organise the “Working with Newcastle University” event on Tuesday May 22 at St James’s Park.

Science and technology companies from across the region are invited to attend, to find out how engagement with academic groups could benefit both parties.

This could be through research carried out by Newcastle University on behalf of the company; joint projects to solve challenging issues; access to technology developed within the university, and student projects, working to solve a company issue.

Professor Nick Wright, Newcastle University’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation, said: “This is an opportunity to share our expertise in science and technology and fast-track this into the business community in our region.

“Whether it’s providing access to the latest technology and equipment or supporting the business in research and development, we want this event to spark new partnerships to help our economy flourish in the North East.

“Working with Newcastle Science City, this is one of many initiatives to support the science and technology industries in the region.”

Simon Green, head of business support at Newcastle Science City, said: “The TSB, Research Councils and European Commission are keen to support this kind of interaction and can subsidise or, in some cases, fully fund the work.

“This means that companies can gain a real competitive edge by accessing cutting edge research at a reduced cost.

“This event will also highlight Newcastle University’s wide ranging expertise and is a must for any company looking to grow through innovation.”

Speakers at the event will include experts from Newcastle University, Technology Strategy Board, Research Councils UK, Newcastle BioMedicine, Newcastle Science City and Enterprise Europe Network.

The event will run between 9am and 1pm, and interested parties can register here.
