Being honest

The chief executive of Yahoo stepped down yesterday, after he was accused of faking a computer science degree on his CV.

While Scott Thompson did not have the requisite qualifications, he still managed to rise through the ranks of the company to the position of chief executive. While it is wrong to be dishonest, does this story indicate that people should not just be judged on their qualifications alone? Or are they an important way of choosing between potential employees?
