A week of 60 second listening tips
In day five, our final day of our ‘week of listening tips’ when on the phone here are three tips that will help you improve your listening skills.
Tip Nine
Give continuous feedback
When the time is right for you to get involved in the conversation, you have asked a great question, you have smoked a pipe to make sure they are finished what they are saying. You have listened, understood actually what they have said and what they mean you must give feedback.
Feedback isn’t just “Yes”, “No”, “That’s interesting” it is summarising the key points of what the other person has said. “Can I summarise it so that I understand what you are saying?” is a good phrase to use. Then when you summarise the key points and the other person agrees with the summary they will feel that you are really listening to them and that you understand them.
