Businesses shouldn’t rest on their laurels
Despite tough economic conditions over the past eighteen months, we have enjoyed a continuous period of growth which has seen our workforce increase from 29 to 42 and our turnover double to £4.5million.
We are very proud of these achievements and we are delighted that the hard work and dedication of our workforce has put us on track to continue this growth and expansion into the coming months and years.
As a company, we have enjoyed steady growth, having overcome the effects of the downturn and recession on our industry and subsequently expanded our services into new business sectors.
In order to survive and thrive in the downturn, we have had to adapt our business to meet new challenges. A restructure of the business, which included investment in our sales and marketing team, has helped us to almost double turnover and recruit more workers.
After outgrowing our original premises in Birtley, near Chester-le-Street, the business has moved into a larger site at the Belmont Industrial Estate, Durham to meet rising demand for our services.
On a general level, there has been a drop in construction industry output of 4.8 per cent in the first quarter of 2012, according to revised ONS data - a fall of 1.8 per cent more than the original estimates released last month. However, the good news is that the North East has seen the biggest increase in the registration of new homes in the country over the past year.
I wouldn’t of course deny that this is a very challenging marketplace but if you’re not doing all that you can to drive things forward then you run the very real risk of going under.
My advice to other businesses in the region, who are in all likelihood suffering in the downturn, is not to rest on your laurels but to go out there and win business, close deals and succeed in this economy. We are one of the businesses who are proof positive that this proactive approach really works.
