CEO not always a lifetime job, research indicates
Over 80% of business leaders expect to be replaced within the next five years according to a poll by SkillsSoft.
The research conducted by the global e-learning company indicated that maintaining the position of CEO is becoming increasingly difficult as businesses look for fresh talent with innovative and strategic minds to drive the business forward.
One third of CEOs surveyed anticipated leaving the business within the next two years, indicating that individuals increasingly feel the pressure to perform.
Only 5% of companies with more than 1,499 employees had no plans to replace their leaders, while a fifth of those with between 500 and 749 employees claimed to have no replacement plans.
Kevin Young, managing director of SkillSoft EMEA, commented: “CEOs need to up their game if they want to keep their roles in such a competitive market.
“Businesses are becoming more ruthless, especially after the recession, so business leaders need to ensure they are cutting edge and can outshine competing candidates.
“This is exactly why not only valuable experience, but training and development is absolutely crucial for leaders to maintain, update and learn new skills.”
