Curtain raiser a huge success for LCL

AN LED lighting manufacturer has showcased its products at a series of innovative theatrical demonstrations.

Newcastle-based Low Carbon Lighting recreated a factory interior and full-size roadway complete with electric car to demonstrate the effectiveness of its street and industry lighting.

The LCL Expo event was attended by dozens of industry figures including local authority representatives, heads of business and low carbon experts at the city’s Turbine Hall.

The company – which expects to secure sales in excess of £2million over the next year – will hold the Expo each year as its product range develops.

Tim Cantle-Jones, CEO of Low Carbon Lighting, said: “We firmly believe our LED products are the best on the market and cannot be beaten for performance, value and efficiency.

“The Expo was an excellent way of demonstrating this to our partners and potential customers in an innovative way and judging by their feedback, it certainly caught their attention!”

The Low Carbon Lighting Expo used performers from a local theatre company to act out various scenarios in which its products could be used, including a factory foreman taking a tea-break and a courting couple illuminated at a bus-stop. At one stage, an electric car travelled along a 30-metre carriageway which had been built inside the Grade-II listed Turbine Hall.

The company has already secured significant sales for its two products – luxon street, which replaces traditional street lighting; and luxon industry for commercial premises such as warehouses, car showrooms, shopping and sports centres and manufacturing facilities. Both are produced at Ashington-based manufacturer Raytec.

The LED products use up to 70% less power than conventional lights bringing impressive cost and energy savings for customers across a range of sectors including local authorities which are trialling the street lights at locations across the North East.

Mr Cantle-Jones added: “The Expo meant we could invite people to one location to reveal the full potential of our luxon products, plunging the hall into darkness before illuminating several carefully crafted scenarios.

“It was a great way to demonstrate the impressive value proposition in our lighting with its ability to radically improve efficiency and performance and its excellent payback.”
