Royal Quays plans new addition
A much needed jobs boost for North Tyneside and improved facilities, will be the double benefits, should planning permission be granted for a garden centre at the Royal Quays outlet centre in North Shields.
Up to 20 jobs will be created by the proposed 3,250 sq ft new store which will also have a frost free and covered outdoor area of 11,000 sq ft. It will be located close to the existing Nike Factory unit and will concentrate purely on the sale of plants and garden products.
A tenant has already been identified to run the site.
Royal Quays, the outlet centre for Newcastle, is managed by WD Limited on behalf of owners, North Shields Investment Properties.
Managing director, Peter Everest, said: “We are very excited about the opening of a garden centre at Royal Quays. We have done a lot of research and know that there will be a demand for the product range that we wish to provide as there is no equivalent garden centre within the district.
“This development will enhance our overall offering and attract many new shoppers, as well as adding great value to those who already shop with us on a regular basis. As a company that is very committed to meeting the needs of our local communities, we are delighted that the project, which will require a major six figure investment, will also create up to 20 new jobs.
“We are looking to gain planning permission from North Tyneside Council during the course of this year, with the opening taking place in March 2013.”
Royal Quays, the 137,997 sq ft retail scheme, has 50 stores which employ around 500 staff, making it an important employment hub for the North Tyneside area.
It is home to a number of top brands offering up to 60% off RRP such as a Marks & Spencer Outlet, Nike Factory Store, Gap Outlet, Collectables Outlet, Clarks, Next and Mountain Warehouse, along with a vast range of local, independent retailers specialising in areas such as sport, fashion, jewellery, music and electrical items.
As well as attracting famous brands, since it opened in 1996, Royal Quays has achieved great success in assisting local retailers looking to get to the next stage of their development.
Packages include competitive and flexible rent agreements that can be linked to store performance as well as expert advice from the on-site management team on marketing, shop design, presentation and sales.
