Keepmost to invest £12.5m in new housing initiatives

Keepmoat have unveiled plans to invest £12.5 million in four new housing initiatives in the North East.

The projects, located in South Gostforth, Fenham and two in the Tyne Valley will create over 100 homes, a similar number of construction sites and many supply chain jobs.

The announcement follows the merger of the group with Apollo in March, forming a £1.3 billion turnover company providing new build housing, funding solutions, regeneration and refurbishment and repairs and maintenance.

North East Region Managing Director, David Ward, said: “The new merged business has major growth plans and these four site acquisitions are to be followed by many more.

“Our mission is to create affordable homes in both private and rented sectors, stimulating economic activity and supporting community regeneration through the creation of training and job opportunities and by supporting local initiatives.”

The South Gosforth development, just off Station Road and within a few minutes walking distance of the Metro Station, is a £1 million scheme to create six luxury two bedroom apartments.

Planning approval has recently been granted and building is likely to start in July.

The project at Fenham is a £5 million development comprising 48 two, three and four bedroom homes in an attractive residential location to be created on the former Reedsmouth garden nursery site, about 500 metres north of the West Road.

Following Keepmoat’s highly successful partnership with Your Homes Newcastle at Blakelaw, this project will include 15 affordable homes that are being developed for the housing association.

Construction is already underway at the first Crawcrook site - Kepier Chare – a £4 million development comprising 35 new homes right in the centre of the village, behind the shops and adjacent to a new medical centre and children’s nursery.

The final scheme, to be known as St. Agnes’, is a £2.5m development comprising 20 dwellings and is also in the centre of the village, adjacent to the traffic lights, on the site of the former catholic club and primary school.

A planning application for this development is to be submitted within the next week and it is hoped that works will start on site in August.

Earlier this month Keepmoat revealed plans to build 29 two and three bedroom homes on the site of a former haulage depot at Strothers Road in High Spen.
