Bear Grylls to complete Olympic abseil
English adventurer, writer and television presented Bear Grylls is set to play a key part in Newcastle’s Olympic Torch Relay, after he was tasked with abseiling over the River Tyne carrying the Olympic Torch.
At around 7pm on Friday Bear will launch himself off the top of the Tyne Bridge on a zip wire over the river carrying the Torch into the Parade Group at HMS Calliope. Here members of the members of HMS Calliope and Royal Marines Reserve Tyne will welcome him after his daring Torch leap.
Whilst there is a staged ticketed area at the Quayside, you do not need a pass to gain access to the Quayside and all of the Evening Celebrations there will be broadcast live on huge screens which can be viewed for free from Newcastle Quayside.
This area will be pedestrianised from 2pm on Friday afternoon, and will be the best location to view the torch being zip wired from the Tyne Bridge.
