Directory website celebrates birthday milestone

Free directory enquiries website 192.com today celebrates its 15th birthday.

192.com supplies users with 700 million public records obtained through, among others, the electoral roll, the land registry, births marriages and deaths indexes and 4.5 million business records gathering all the information together and putting it onto one site.

The site attracts around ten million users a month, a figure that is yet to be beaten by any other people or business directory.

When launched in 1997, 192.com created two million CD-ROMs which were sold for less than £20.00 a copy - a much cheaper alternative to other databases which cost upwards of £1000.

The company, which was the first to make the edited electoral roll available on the internet, currently employs over 40 members of staff and is now largely used by many to reunite family and friends with campaigns by individuals like 1966 World Cup winner George Cohen MBE who decided to use the site in an attempt to reunite fans from that year.
