ABS Announces New Strategic Direction
Today 20 June 2012 saw the ABS hold an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) at Regents College in London to discuss pivotal changes in the strategic direction of the Association.
Over 30 members of the ABS were present to hear from:
• Chairman of ABS, Prof. Angus Laing, Dean of Business and Economics at Loughborough University
• Vice Chair, Baback Yazdani, Dean of Nottingham Business School, Nottingham Trent University
• Treasurer Kai Peters, Chief Executive of Ashridge; and
• Paul Marshall, Chief Executive, ABS.
The Chairman Angus Laing introduced a new strategic plan for the Association (2012-15), incorporating new governance and management arrangements, a new members benefit statement (and categories) and a new operational plan for 2012-13.
Voting representatives unanimously agreed all of the plans set out, approving the new strategic direction and offer of the organisation going forwards.
Chairman, Angus Laing, Dean of Business and Economics at Loughborough University said:
“This meeting marks a pivotal moment in the history of the Association; the focus now is much more on policy, research development and internationalisation - to best reflect the needs of the membership and business and management education sector as a whole.
I and the membership – (as shown by the unequivocal acceptance of today’s proposals) are delighted to be part of the new steer of the organisation.
The plans laid out by the new Chief Executive Paul Marshall give a clear focus for ABS going forwards, and we can now offer our members a much richer and broader range of benefits – both in the UK and via our strong networks globally.“
Paul Marshall, Chief Executive of the ABS concurred:
“I am delighted that these proposals have been accepted by our membership, this is an exciting time for the Association, with demonstrable partnerships and activities coming up such as our inauguralBusiness and Management Education Leadership summit in KL in November with our partners at the Association of Asia Pacific Business Schools, Nottingham University and the British Council.
Our new vision states that the ABS is the voice for the UK’s business schools and independent management colleges and that we will set the agenda for business and management education in the UK within an increasingly international environment. We will develop influential policies and promote, communicate and lobby on these at local, regional, national and international levels as appropriate. Partnerships with our existing members, counterparts and industry are central to our plans.“
