New role to boost external links
Northumbria University has created a new role to strengthen the institution’s relationships with key external partners and clients.
Andrew Sugden will take up the position of Head of External Engagement on 25 June, joining the University after eight years as the North East Chamber of Commerce’s Director of Membership and Policy.
In his previous role, Andrew led the development and communication of the Chamber’s policy and campaigning activity, including representing business at a local, regional, and national level on behalf of NECC’s members that collectively account for over 30% of the region’s workforce.
Speaking about his appointment, he said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Northumbria University. It has a great reputation and makes a fantastic contribution to the economic, cultural and community life of Newcastle and the wider region. Hopefully my skills and experience will help me strengthen Northumbria’s external links still further.”
Andrew will work closely with Lucy Winskell, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Region, Engagement and Partnerships) in the development of relationships with local government and public and private sector organisations, shaping the University’s contribution to regional, economic and social development, and further strengthening links with schools, businesses and the professions.
“I am delighted to welcome Andrew to Northumbria University,” said Lucy Winskell. “Andrew joins us at a time when our partnerships are flourishing and our links with business are going from strength to strength
“I am looking forward to working with Andrew to further cement these and other relationships, whilst nurturing and developing new and exciting partnerships and continuing to embed Northumbria University at the heart of the region’s growth and development.”
