Bristol celebrates alternative 4th July
Bristol’s campaign to support independent traders will use July 4 to celebrate a different type of independence.
Bristol Independents Campaign are planning a day of special activities in order to highlight Bristol’s diverse array of independent retailers and high street shopping centres.
Supported by members of the Bristol Food Network, independent traders and the City Council, the organisers are hoping to rally shoppers and businesses across the city.
Jane Stevenson from the Bristol Independents Campaign said: “The 4th July is a great day to check out some of the wonderful independent businesses in Bristol. Bristol’s independent traders help make our city different from any other.
“They’re also what makes Stapleton Road different from Gloucester Road, or Park Street different from Christmas Steps. So this Independents Day, why not celebrate by shopping independently - by exploring a different high street in the city, or by trying out an independent shop, cafe, bar or market stall where you haven’t shopped before.”
Cllr Guy Poultney, Cabinet Member for Communities said: “Bristol has many vibrant high streets and markets with dynamic independent traders.
“But in this challenging economic climate, we must do all we can to support them and this is why I welcome the work of the Bristol Independents Campaign and I urge businesses and shoppers to get behind their 4th July campaign day.”
Businesses can get involved by becoming a Bristol Independents Ambassador, organising activities and raising the campaign’s special flag on the street.
