Burma trade mission follows Suu Kyi visit
Lord Marland, chairman of UKTI’s Business Ambassadors’ Group will lead a trade mission to Burma next month.
British businesses are set to join Lord Marland and UKTI chief executive Nick Baird as the first British group to visit since the partial suspension of EU sanctions and lifting of the UK’s policy of discouraging all trade and investment in April this year.
Lord Green, Minister of State for Trade and Investment, said: Lord Green, Minister of State for Trade and Investment, said:
“The companies on the mission will demonstrate UK business excellence and its commitment to promoting social and environmental responsibility.
“In particular, the UK will be working very hard with the Burmese government to increase transparency and improved public financial management.”
Burma is a country with high growth potential, rich in natural resources and a young labour force.
This trade mission follows the recent visit of Burmese National League for Democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi to the UK, where she has touched upon the importance of foreign direct investment.
