Kepier Chare is going, going, gone!
A former auction mart in Crawcrook is to provide affordable homes for local people following the sale of land at Kepier Chare to Keepmoat.
Earmarked by Gateshead Council for mixed-use, the site has already had a medical centre with pharmacy developed upon it and phase two will see the provision of 35 residential properties on what is a prime location in Crawcrook village.
The disposals of the site were arranged by JK Property Consultants with planning permission secured by Storey Edward Symons, which also acted as joint agents. Sintons LLP handled the legal aspects.
Ian Prescott, land and partnership’s director at Keepmoat, said: “We are delighted to be building 35 new homes in an area where first time buyers struggle to get a foot on the housing ladder. The project includes low cost affordable homes, 6 for rent and 3 for shared ownership sale, which will be available to local people.
“The site purchase was a complicated one - fortunately JK Property Consultants played a valuable role and were instrumental in making sure everything was in place to keep things moving on.”
Kevan Carrick, principal at JK Property Consultants, said: “I have long had an involvement with Kepier Chare, having handled all valuation and lease negotiations relating to the land in the past. The site is central to the local community and it’s fantastic to know that the village will now have sustainable family housing, safe pedestrian routes and car parking to complement the new medical centre in situ.”
Alan Dawson, partner at Sintons, commented: “Kepier Chare is well known, having been owned and used by the Pattinson family for years, before becoming a venue for Anderson & Garland for many years. Keepmoat’s plans fit the site perfectly, and it’s great to see the area being developed for community use.”
