BBC pays a visit to OVCV
We were delighted to be featured on the BBC Look North programme recently. John was contacted ‘out of the blue’ by a researcher who had read about OVCV whilst doing some digging for an item on graduate unemployment and arrangements were made for Richard Moss, their political editor and presenter of the regional Sunday Politics programme to come along to the office and interview John.
John found the interview itself quite nerve wracking to begin with. It ironically served as a reminder to us here at OVCV of one of the benefits to graduates of making their video cv with us; talking and answering questions about yourself, your degree and your experiences to camera can be most useful in helping to get over those nerves before the real thing!
As shown from the full report, young people in our region still consider the experience of going to university as worthwhile and valuable for their future earning potential when balanced against higher tuition fees and an uncertain jobs climate.
The issue of graduates getting into employment has been and continues to be high on the topical agenda; from The Daily Politics touching on the issue of employers needing young people with some relevant experience in addition to their qualifications to Job Centre Plus coming under fire from a member of the Question Time audience for not having the ability to meet the needs of graduates.
Whilst necessity may be the mother of invention, the OVCV tool was developed from a graduates viewpoint and commitment to finding a better way of linking up graduates , employers and universities with the aim of a business of any size being able to source the right person, first time.
It has been very satisfying for us to launch the portal at Northumbria and we are now looking forward to working on our next project with Digital City.
