North East Hotel Named Charity Hero

A leading North East hotel has been named a Charity Hero after lending its support to a fundraising bike ride across theUK.

The DoubleTree byHiltonNewcastleInternationalAirporthotel, located yards from the airport terminal, was given the title after opening its doors for free to nine cyclists undertaking a 450 mile fundraising ride fromEdinburghtoLondon.

With support from independent initiative Ride2Raise, which manages charity cycling events across theUK, the group hope to raise more than £18,000 for Missing People, helping fund the search for missing children and adults across the country and support the families they?ve left behind.

The DoubleTree by Hilton Newcastle International Airport hotel, which provided free food and accommodation, was the group?s first port of call on their gruelling five-day journey from Holyrood Palace, Edinburgh to Richmond Park in south west London, which will also see them travelling through York, Nottingham and Milton Keynes.

The hotel, which opened yards from the airport terminal in November, was presented with a Charity Hero award by Ride2Raise in recognition of its generosity and support for their cause.

Seamus O?Hara, Manager at the DoubleTree by Hilton Newcastle International Airport Hotel, said: ?We are extremely proud and honoured to have received the Charity Hero award from Ride2Raise and are delighted that we were able to help the riders on their gruelling journey in support of such a worthwhile cause.?

The DoubleTree by Hilton Newcastle International Airport hotel, which caters for a wide range of business and leisure travellers, is one of a number of bars, hotels and restaurants owned and operated by the North East-based Cairn Group across the UK, with others including the Holiday Inn Newcastle-Jesmond hotel in Newcastle, the Holiday Inn Darlington A1 Scotch Corner hotel in County Durham and Fratello?s Italian restaurants, which has branches across the region.

Earlier this year the hotel announced plans to raise between £5,000 and £10,000 on behalf of its adopted charity the TOMA Fund, which helps fund equipment and experiences for young people in the North East affected by childhood cancers and supports families who may be suffering financial difficulties while caring for their child.
