The innovative rock ‘n’ roll
The 1950’s was an era well known for its creativity. Inventions and innovation brought dreary post war Britain into a Technicolor saturated world of the future.
Throughout the ten year span Britain saw instant coffee, the innovation of the teabag – now available on a string for dunking, microchips, barcodes and of course Rock ‘n’ Roll.
Music has always been innovative but it is hard to believe that there was once upon a time when there was no rock music. Rock ‘n’ Roll revolutionized musical tastes, especially amongst the young. This type of new music_was not invented_ but born from a series of innovative and technological developments that created a new market for music.
Little Richard, who was one of the great innovators in 1950’s rock music, once said that “Rhythm and Blues had a baby and somebody named it Rock ‘n’ Roll.”
From the mid 1960’s Rock ‘n’ Roll yielded to ‘rock’ and then later dance genres followed; funk, disco, house and the innovative hip hop.
Innovation is more than just a science; we have been applying innovation to culture, technologies and of course business for decades. Les Baxter, American musician and composer once said: “Any good music must be an innovation.”
Innovation can be applied everywhere and in my series of blogs to follow I will demonstrate how it can be applied to lifestyles and technologies.
