(ABS) Key Role in Business-University Collaboration
The Rt Hon David Willetts MP, Minister of State for Universities and Science, has set out the Government’s response to Professor Sir Tim Wilson’s independent Review of Business-University Collaboration. (The Governments published response, is available online).
The ABS has a key role to play and in addition to the work of the Business School Task Force (as set out in the report), the ABS has established an Innovation Task Force made up from senior figures from business schools and industry charged with:
(i) consulting on actions that should be taken to ensure that the actual and potential contributions of UK business schools to innovation and growth can be properly understood;
(ii) considering barriers to success and examples from outside the UK and recommending how to encourage and support further innovation and enhancing the economic performance of the UK; and
(iii) establishing links to policy bodies in order to ensure they benefit from management and research of relevance in a range of settings and objectives.
Paul M. Marshall, Chief Executive, The Association of Business Schools, said:
“We welcome the publication of the government response to the Wilson Review and are supportive of the recommendations. Universities lie at the heart of the UK economy. We must find ways in which existing links between universities and business and industry can be strengthened and new partnerships formed. In this context we are delighted that the government has recognised the important role that business schools play in providing a bridge between universities and business. We welcome the government’s support for our Innovation Task Force and look forward to taking the outcome of the review forward with the government in the autumn and presenting our own interim findings at our annual conference (on Innovation for Growth)”
