Bikes for business: Could you save cash?
Whatever your arena of business, getting your staff from A to B is often essential and unfortunately, with steep rises in petrol prices, this has become a far costlier affair in recent years. Despite the government’s recent U-turn on the 3p fuel duty rise, times are particularly tough for companies where the very bread and butter of their business is moving people and things, for instance courier firms, coach companies and freight businesses. Steep fuel costs mean these types of businesses are being tighter than ever when they take out fleet insurance, but there are other saving options for businesses.
If you keep a number of company cars for the occasional use of employees, it is of course vital that everyone who drives them is insured appropriately. However, if the petrol purse strings are becoming tight, think carefully about whether you need the full fleet, or if you need cars at all. Keeping a mix of vehicles including cars and motorbikes could help you lower your total transport costs and give you a means of getting busy bees from one place to another far faster and cheaper.
Of course, this doesn’t just apply to fleets. If you own a takeaway shop and have a delivery vehicle, you could make substantial savings by swapping the car in for a bike and taking out specialist commercial bike insurance. Not only could this mean paying out less for road tax, fuel and insurance, it should help your deliveries get there faster, meaning less free giveaways when there are time complaints!
Motorbike courier firms are known to take advantage of the agile nature of bikes in traffic and have long been aware of their cost efficiency, seeking courier fleet insurance from specialists who know their market and can tailor their product to best meet their needs. If your business falls into this category, and even if you are confident you have your costs all covered, it’s still wise to review your policy regularly to make sure you aren’t paying over the odds for your level of cover. After all, every penny saved is a penny in the petrol pot!
