Markel signs tenancy agreement for Walkie Talkie
Specialist insurer Markel has signed a tenancy agreement with Land Securities and Canary Wharf Group making it first confirmed occupant of iconic new structure.
The planned 38 floor building which, when finished will stand at more than 500 feet is often called the Walkie Talkie and is due to be ready in 2014. When completed, the building will have a commanding presence in the insurance area of the capital city.
Land Securities has a large London portfolio with 9.5 million square feet of office and retail accommodation and 50,000 people working in offices which they own.
Canary Wharf Group is an integrated group of companies dealing in property development, investment and management. The group have planning permission to approximately double Canary Wharf?s working population over the next two decades in a bid to rejuvenate this area of the city.
Markel will occupy the 26th and 27th floors and will be able to 360 degree views across the city.
William Stovin, president and chief operating officer of Markel International said: ?We are delighted that we have been able to agree terms for such a prestigious building which will provide us with the perfect headquarters for our continued growth both in the UK and overseas.?
