Should we bring back the O-levels?

Recently it has been brought to surface that Michael Gove intends to abolish the gcse exams and bring back the more traditional approach of the O-levels, ready for 2016; meaning English schools can concentrate more on the core subjects such as Math’s, English and Science. Could this be because British schools are seen as being over-tested, and spend more time sitting exams than being taught in the classroom? Could this lead to a lack of knowledge when we enter jobs after university?

In the past year the education secretary has also scrapped the modular exams as you can do endless resits - leading to teenagers failing exams as they have too many to revise for and re-sit. This means that unfortunately students, such as myself had less time to “develop a deep and rounded knowledge of the subject.”

It seems that because there are so many exams being introduced, less time is being spent on teaching teenagers how to cope with basic responsibilities; such as getting to work on time, and the pressures of the outside world which they face after school and university.
