Students Gain PR Experience at Publicity Seekers

PUBLICITY Seekers is welcoming two students this summer for a four-week long internship scheme.

The PR agency has invited Sunderland University students Katy Moody and Jade English to spend their summer at the business to gain a valuable insight into public relations.

Both will start their final year at the university in September where they are studying for a BA (Hons) in Public Relations and jumped at the chance to develop some industry experience.

Sally Pearson, of Publicity Seekers, said: “It’s great that we can have Katy and Jade with us for the summer. We work with clients on a business to business level as well as a business to consumer level, something which will be invaluable for Katy and Jade to experience.

“Social media is incredibly important within public relations and the students will be helping us to develop and deliver winning strategies for our clients.”

Publicity Seekers, which is located at the Queen’s Meadow Business Park in Hartlepool, works with range of varied portfolio of clients including J&B Recycling, Nicholson’s Transport, Low Carbon Lighting, Chelsea Summer Houses and Al Forno restaurant in Middlesbrough.

Katy, who is 19 and from Gateshead, said: “This is a great opportunity for me to come and work with such a successful agency in the region. It’s one thing doing a degree at university but that is completely different to going out into the real world and learning about the industry first-hand. I’m particularly looking forward to developing some blogs for Publicity Seekers about my internship.

“The experience will be invaluable and I cannot wait for the weeks to come.”

Throughout the summer, Katy and Jade will be attending client meetings, pitching ideas and developing the online presence of Publicity Seekers’ clients.

Sally added: “We want to make sure the students get the most from their time with us, giving them a broad grounding in what is involved in the day-to-day running of a PR agency.

“We want them to experience everything, so they are just as likely to sit on board meetings as to be drafting and sending out press releases. There’s plenty going on and plenty of work for her to do.”

Publicity Seekers was set up six years ago, by Jonathan Ward and Samantha Lee, two former journalists from the region.
