Families get set to celebrate at Newcastle United

Christmas has come early at a leading North East football stadium as fun-loving families snap up the chance to celebrate.

Sodexo Prestige, which manages the conference and banqueting facilities at the Sports Direct Arena, has received a surge of advance bookings for its Christmas dinners, parties and events just a fortnight after celebrating a record-breaking Fathers’ Day.

The Arena recently unveiled a packed schedule of festive entertainment for Christmas and New Year and Sodexo General Manager Frankie Angus said: “We’re stunned by the speed and scale of the response. We always receive advance booking but rarely this early and in such numbers.

“Times may be hard but here in the North East people are determined to put their worries behind them and enjoy themselves - as the response to our Fathers’ Day lunch showed.”

Six hundred and thirty three diners flocked to the Newcastle United ground on Fathers’ Day to enjoy a celebratory lunch along with a mini-tour of the stadium facilities - a 34 per cent increase on last year and almost double the figure of 376 who lunched there on the same day in 2010.

Now, catering and events staff at the ground are preparing for that upward trend to continue into the New Year.

Among the highlights of the Christmas celebrations at the Sports Direct Arena are the A Night at Monte Carlo evenings on December 7 and 8 with casino tables, a Bucks Fizz reception, three-course dinner, disco and late bar for £30 per person.

Throughout December Sodexo’s award-winning team of chefs will also be serving up a selection of Christmas dining packages on selected dates and inviting groups to host their own, bespoke, festive parties.

The Bamburgh Suite, one of the largest single conference and banqueting facilities in the region, will be the venue for party nights on December 14, 15, 21 and 22, while the Christmas with Bells On events on December 7 and 14 will provide black-tie glamour.

Guests will be welcomed with Champagne, before enjoying a four-course meal, live entertainment and a casino, with all house wines, single house spirits and draught beers also included in the £75 per person package.

“We really hope that all those who celebrated Fathers’ Day with us will come back in the run-up to Christmas,” said Frankie Angus, “and that we’ll also be able to welcome those who haven’t been to, or hosted, an event here before.

“We can promise them a wonderful time, with great food and entertainment at excellent prices in one of the most atmospheric and special venues in the region.
