GMI Energy deliver Manchester renewable energy scheme

Leeds based company GMI Energy have continued their success with a renewable energy scheme on the roof of the Urban Exchanged retail development in Manchester.

Following on from the construction of the largest city centre solar photovoltaic system of its time at Clarence Dock car park in Leeds, GMI have again teamed up with Town Centre Securities to provide 208 solar panels of the roof of the Urban Exchange retail development on Great Ancoast Street, Manchester.

The non-penetrating roof mounted 240w REC solar system, which was build in one week, is made from aluminium and stainless steel in order to provide the building with a flexible, longer term solution.

This new system will produce around 44,800kwh of energy per year and will lead to a combined income and saving of £10,550 a year. The system will also reduce the carbon emissions of property investment and development company Town Centre Securities by 17,813kg of CO2 a year.

Tenants of the Urban Exchange such as Aldi, M&S and Go Outdoors will be able to use the clean, low carbon generated energy at the site.

Associate Director at Town Centre Securities PLC said: “Urban Exchange is an architecturally stunning environmentally-friendly building, which has become a successful retail destination. The PV Panels not only add to the building’s green credentials but fit with Town Centre Securities’ commitment to sustainable development.”

As well as the installation, GMI are providing an operations and maintenance support package to ensure that the system will work efficiently for 25 years.

Carl Nielsen, Managing Director of GMI Energy said: “We are delighted to continue GMI’s relationship with Town Centre Securities PLC as the construction arm of the business has undertaken several contracts at the Urban Exchange development over the years.”

He added: “Investing into green energy is a longer term strategy that must integrate with the rest of the businesses objectives.”

GMI Energy has been working for more than two decades to deliver buidling and construction service projects for an international portfolio of developers, ublic sector clients and blue chip companies.
