Bolsover to get large cash injection

Bolsover Town is set to receive a £100,000 investment which could be more than doubled if another funding bid is successful.

The grant came from the High Street Innovation Fund and will be used by Bolsover District Council as match funding to bid for another £120,000 from the European Regional Development Fund Priority.

Funding will be used to deliver environmental and economic development measures and marketing initiatives which it is hoped will help to improve the resilience of the town centre.

The funding has links to the Portas Review of the High Streets which is working towards helping local authorities, businesses and communities work together in order to improve their high streets. The scheme wants to see British high streets rejuvenated rather than putting too much focus on chain supermarkets and large out of town shopping centres which are often driving people away from shopping in the small towns.

Councillor Alan Tomlinson said: “Bolsover Town is going through a period of change and we said we would work closer with the towns businesses to help them and that is exactly what we are going to do.”

Bolsover Town, which is one of two authorities in Derbyshire to have received this grant, will put the money towards ‘retail doctor seminars’, signage, marketing, events, renovation of frontages and the restoration of the town’s historical features.
