We were intrigued to read about the top 10 skills in which their was a shortage, according to some research carried out. What do you think?

Languages In a global market, the ability to speak a language other than your mother tongue is now more appealing to employers. If an employee is able to speak more languages, it will be seen as a positive from an employer’s point of view.

Communication
The dawn of technology such as email, SMS and latterly social media has reduced the need to talk face-to-face. The ability to build relationships with colleagues, senior management and external clients is recognised as a plus.

Leadership
There is a lack of leadership skills across the board. This may be due to a lack of investment into professional development and training.

Organisation
In the current economic climate, employers want their staff to be able to manage their day and workload efficiently to maximise the business ROI.

Finance
There is an increasing number of organisations who are looking for greater budgetary and financial awareness but there appears to be quite a significant shortage of these skills.

IT
Skills that are in short supply include knowledge of JAVA, .NET and C++ and IT skills that are specific to individual industries.

Green
A new and ever growing area. More and more businesses are becoming concerned with their carbon footprint. There is also a demand for green energy solutions.

Procurement
Businesses are seeking to make savings, thus they are looking for individuals who will enable them to cut costs and save money wherever possible.

R&D
Technology, consumer goods, industrial and life science firms are all noticing Research & Development skill shortages.

Healthcare
As more people live longer, there will be an increased demand for healthcare. However, the lack of healthcare professionals is said to be posing a considerable threat to the global economy over the next 20 to 50 years.
