BBC Television Centre sold to Stanhope Plc

The BBC have sold their iconic television centre in west London to property developers Stanhope PLC for £200m.

The BBC announced its intention to sell the centre in 2007 in a bid to cut costs. The staff will be relocated to MediaCity in Salford and the new Broadcasting house in central London, leaving the centre empty by 2015.

The centre opened in 1960 and has been home to the sets of programmes such as Fawlty Towers, Doctor Who and Blue Peter.

The famous question mark design was actualised by architect Graham Dawbarn, and the main office block commonly referred to as the ‘doughnut’ was given Grade II listed status by the English Heritage in 2009.
