Jaguar Land Rover to create 1,100 new jobs

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is set to create 1,100 new jobs at its plant in the West Midlands.

The new employees at the Castle Bromwich site will build the new Jaguar XF Sportbrake estate car, along with a number of other models.

The announcement has been welcomed by the Government, who believe that the investment will also help to create thousands of UK supply chain jobs.

The Business Secretary Vince Cable said: “This expansion is a clear demonstration of Jaguar Land Rover’s continuing commitment and investment in the UK.”

In the past 2 years JLR have created 8,000 new jobs.

Over the next five years the firm plan to bring “40 significant product actions” to market, with the majority of innovation work in design, engineering and technology to be done in the UK.

During the first half of 2012 JLR have witnessed strong worldwide growth, after a 19% rise in sales was recorded in comparison with the same period in 2011.

Chief executive Ralf Speth commented: “We will continue to invest in new products, develop new technologies and enhance the skills of our employees.

In June JLR outlined plans to spend an additional £1 million with UK suppliers of components for its Range Rover Evoque model, while in 2012 the firm awarded contracts worth £2 billion to 40 UK suppliers.
