Ancient North East monuments get the Stone treatment
Darlington company Stone Technical Services has secured a range of contracts to complete conservation work on historic and ancient structures around the North East and North Yorkshire.
Thanks to its reputation and past projects for English Heritage all over the UK, Stone has been engaged to carry out conservation work at Tynemouth Priory, Ayton Castle in the Scottish Borders, Berwick Castle and Belsay Castle in Northumberland.
In addition, historic and ancient buildings experts at Stone are carrying out conservation and masonry repairs at St Patrick’s Church in Felling for the Diocese of Gateshead, and boundary and high level wall repairs for York Museums Trust.
Family-run Stone Technical Services, based in Kellaw Road in Darlington, has vast experience in the field of restoration and masonry projects having worked on buildings such as Gibside Monument, the Royal Courts of Justice and St Paul’s Cathedral as well as various churches, memorials and museums.
In addition to its restoration and refurbishment projects, Stone also works extensively with industrial clients, councils, NHS trusts, housing associations, the National Trust and Network Rail to carry out a range of maintenance, safety and renovation projects.
Last year, Stone Technical Services increased its workforce by a third and created 10 new jobs for local people to cope with the increased demand for its varied services.
Managing director, Dave Stone said: “Working on historic and ancient buildings and monuments requires very specialist skills. It’s a real privilege to be able to preserve such treasured structures many of which date back thousands of years. Each project is unique and requires a level of sensitivity to its heritage and that’s what our skilled team offers.”
