New tiki bar brings stars to the city

A top Newcastle nightspot is introducing a tropical party atmosphere to the city with the launch of a VIP tiki bar this weekend.

Tiger Tiger, located within The Gate complex, is opening Kanaloa, a Polynesian themed bar with an extensive cocktail menu and an impressive celebrity line-up.

To celebrate, the bar will be holding two launch parties on Friday and Saturday August 3 and 4, featuring star DJs, live performances, giveaways and live entertainment including fire performers, Polynesian dancers and stilt walkers.

On Friday August 3, TOWIE’s Joey Essex will headline, with Pat Sharp, Aussie DJ Emily Scott and Radio 1’s Huw Stephens.

On Saturday August 4, Danny Jones from McFly will headline, with Chesney Hawkes, Kenzie, Sarah Jane Crawford from Radio 1Xtra, and The Dreamboys.

The celebrity line up continues throughout summer, with Lee Ryan from Blue headlining on August 11, with Ministry of Sound’s Wideboys.

August 18 sees Dev from Radio 1 pay a visit with Melanie Blatt from All Saints, and on August 25 it’s the turn of British model Sophie Anderton, with Krystal Roxx - DJ to Taio Cruz.

The cocktails at Kanaloa are set to be a hit with the city’s partygoers. Each one is designed by award-winning mixologists made with freshly squeezed juices, exotic fruits and primarily organic ingredients. Signature drinks include the Kanaloa Kula, a heady mixture of Mahiki Rum, Lemon, Star Anise, Lime Sugar, Pomegranate juice and Vintage Spanish Sparkling Wine.

Kanaloa’s sharing cocktails include Octopus Punch, which serves eight people and features Eldorado 12 Guyanese Rum, Nui Nui Spiced Syrup, Fresh Lemon, and Black Tea served in a bespoke Octopus punch bowl.

The bar’s interior reflects a relaxed summer atmosphere with carved wooden pillars, bamboo, and traditional tiki-styled areas alongside tropical leaf patterned walls and rustic wooden planking.

The Kanaloa Kitchen will serve a range of special Pan Asian-inspired dishes such as Tempura Lobster with Wasabi Mayonnaise (£15), Salt and Chilli Baby Squid with Soy Sauce (£7) and Thai Green Chicken Broth with Sticky Rice (£10).

Shauna Robb, general manager of Tiger Tiger Newcastle said: “We’re very excited to bring Kanaloa to Newcastle. The bar offers retro touches and a constant summer vibe, as well as amazing cocktails and a fantastic celebrity guest line-up. The Kanaloa brand has already enjoyed huge success in London and we’re so pleased to be introducing the same tropical party spirit to the North East.”
