Is Diageo fit to lead our food industry?

Paul Walsh, CEO of drinks giant Diageo, has been appointed by the Government as “Business Ambassador” for the food and drink industry.

As reported on Bdaily, Mr Walsh will help SMEs to grow their overseas reach, as part of the Government’s agenda to encourage exporting.

To some, it might seem a strange decision, given Diageo’s faux pas at this year’s British Innkeeping awards. Representatives from the company told organisers to change their decision on winners Brew Dog, an SME outfit, or risk losing sponsorship in future years.

Diageo issued an apology after the event, but surely this isn’t the behaviour of a ‘Business Ambassador’?
