John broadcasts news about new Irish network

An ex pat Galway news broadcast journalist who settled in the North East of England 27 years ago has launched an organisation to cater for the Irish professional and business communities within the region and, especially, the New Irish Diaspora who, like him, are proud of their links with their mother land.

John Coyne from Gateshead, better known in Irish media circles as Séan Ó Cadhain from his work with RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta has formed the North East of England Irish Network to bring together all of the existing and settled Irish communities in the region.

John’s vision is to bring together existing local Irish communities (who already have their own centres, associations and organisations doing Trojan work within their own localities) and together, encompass the academic, cultural, social and sporting spheres associated with his fellow people. Despite working in the UK for so long, John has never forgotten his roots and has strived to keep the Irish language alive through broadcasting and other means. He also has a passion for helping migrants like himself to settle and thrive within the North East community.

“The North East of England Irish Network will provide a place, both online and physically for all Irish people and those of Irish descent, no matter what line of work they do, to meet, liaise, share and network with each other,” said John. “We will especially help and support the New Irish Diaspora who have left their homeland and settled in our region.”

John is confident that the network will become a valued resource to advertise Irish events, provide a service directory for Irish businesses, offer support for campaigns of interest to members and host events across the region for networking and socialising. It will cover an area from the Scottish borders down to Teesside and across to the Pennines in the west, an area that contains many thousands of people with a link to Ireland.

“I’d like to extend a warm welcome to everyone who shares our enthusiasm for Ireland and all things Irish, regardless of religious or political persuasion, colour, creed, gender or sexual orientation,” said John. “We will be hosting an official launch event in September with distinguished guests and dignitaries, but for now, it’s time to let people know we are there to help them.”
