Crafted & Co secures distinguished licence

Newcastle-based joinery company, Crafted & Co, has secured a distinguished certificate to fabricate Corian, allowing the company to widen its offering as well as staying at the forefront of modern craftsmanship.

The 30-strong workforce has been fully trained on the machinery and working with the solid surface material, which can be thermoformed to create unique shapes and designs. CD (UK) Ltd, the UK’s exclusive distributor of Corian trained the staff as well as visiting the Crafted & Co offices in Gateshead. The firm ensured the site was of a high standard and assessed the workforce’s skill, before awarding the company with a certificate to fabricate.

Traditionally used for kitchen surfaces and bathroom counter tops, Crafted & Co has used its expertise to create bespoke furniture using Corian, as well as bar tops and bar fronts for commercial interiors. The firm will benefit greatly from Corian, which is popular with architects and designers for its versatility, sustainability and wide ranging patterns and effects, including natural stone.

Crafted & Co’s managing director, Ken Smith, said: “Our new Corian certification will strengthen Crafted & Co, as it allows us to combine our skills when working with timber and other materials. As it is important for us to offer our clients a wide range of designs and effects, this new certificate will help set us aside from other joinery companies that are only known for their woodwork.”
