Anderson Barrowcliff raises over £2,500 in charity Zumbathon

It’s not often you’d find a room full of accountants making a song and a dance about anything other than balancing a set of accounts. However Tees Valley firm of Chartered Accountants Anderson Barrowcliff have raised more than £2,500 for Zoë’s Place baby hospice through hosting a charity Zumbathon.

The event was held at Durham University Stockton Campus Sports Hall on the 4th September and attracted more than 60 volunteers across all ability levels, from beginners to experienced Zumba enthusiasts. Karen Winspear, an Administrator at the firm and qualified Zumba Instructor, led the participants through the two hour dance fitness programme.

Partner at Anderson Barrowcliff Beverley Blakey commented “Zumba has really taken off over the past couple of years so we knew it would be a really fun and popular event for people to take part in. By the end most people were shattered but overall I think they really enjoyed the energy and atmosphere of the occasion. Thank you to everyone for taking part and their generous donations!”

The firm works closely with the charity sector and wanted to show their support for a local charity. Mrs. Blakey added “We are supporting Zoë’s Place as it is a great local charity providing care for babies who have life limiting and life threatening conditions. Like many charities they will really benefit from extra support and donations to get through this difficult economic climate.”

Sue Fox, Corporate Fundraiser at Zoë’s Place commented, “We really appreciate the backing and fundraising support from Anderson Barrowcliff. We are continuously thinking of new ways to fundraise so it is fantastic to see a fresh idea receive a good turnout from an enthusiastic group of participants.”

Mrs. Fox continued, “The services that we offer can be accessed free of charge by families who have a child with a life limiting or life threatening condition. It costs around £1 million per year to keep Zoë’s Place running and we receive little funding from the government so the support we have received from those that have made donations and taken part in the Zumbathon is extremely important to us.”
