Business ministers take on UK exports and environment

Vince Cable has delegated responsibilities to his newly appointed ministerial team, after the Prime Minister announced his reshuffled cabinet on Tuesday.

The Business Secretary has retained authority over policy and strategy, as well as budget responsibilities for the Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS).

Technology will come under the Minister for Universities and Science, David Willetts, as he will look after the Technology Strategy Board, and Energy Technologies Institute, which both work to encourage growth and innovation in technology businesses.

The Government’s low carbon initiative will come under Michael Fallon, newly appointed Business and Enterprise Minister, who will oversee low carbon economy plan, low emission vehicles and electronics, as well as SMEs and access to finance.

Export schemes will come under the authority of Lord Green, as he heads UKTI and UK Export Finance.

The UK’s plans to establish itself as the best place in Europe to start a business will be bolstered by what the government hopes will be a stabilized economy once exports and investments have improved.

A statement from BIS said: “Work is underway across Government to achieve these ambitions, including progress on more than 250 measures as part of the Growth Review.

“Developing an Industrial Strategy gives new impetus to this work by providing businesses, investors and the public with more clarity about the long-term direction in which the Government wants the economy to travel.”
