New recruits join Grant Thornton in Yorkshire

Business and financial adviser Grant Thornton has welcomed 16 young people to its training programme in Yorkshire which is continuing to attract and nurture the brightest talent among both graduates and school leavers.

Based at the firm’s offices in Leeds and Sheffield, this year sees the highest level of recruits to enter the Grant Thornton programme.

Primarily recruited from universities in the region, the graduates will benefit from Grant Thornton’s comprehensive three year development programme which supports trainees as they study for their professional qualifications as well as giving them experience of working within its specialist teams. It includes structured activities during the trainees’ first year to prepare them for their initial placements. The firm now has a dedicated trainee recruitment team nationally which to help to ensure that the best quality candidates are selected to join the scheme.

This year’s intake includes three interns embarking on a 12 month training contract and two school leavers on an extended training programme. The firm’s commitment to its trainees and the quality of its induction strategy was recognised this year when it won the Graduate Campaign at the RAD Awards and was also recognised in the SoMe Graduate Recruitment Awards.

Jonathan Riley, senior partner at Grant Thornton in Yorkshire, said: “Graduates are facing extremely tough competition in the jobs market, but the UK’s leading professional services firms are continuing to offer excellent training and career opportunities.

“We are fortunate to be able to attract the brightest and most enthusiastic young people onto our award-winning training programme. Our role is to develop their potential and keep them engaged as they learn in order to ensure that our clients continue to benefit from the strength and depth of our team.”

Mr Riley continues: “The firm has ambitious growth plans and nurturing the very best talent is vital to our success. With more young people considering alternative entry routes, our flexible approach to providing training at various entry levels is proving extremely popular.”

Recruitment levels have continued to rise at Grant Thornton’s offices throughout the UK with a record intake this year of more than 340 trainees. With opportunities in audit, business risk services, tax, recovery & reorganisation and corporate finance, training contracts are available for students from any degree discipline. There are also opportunities for school leavers as well as placement and internship positions.
