Casino to get contemporary refurbishment

Leading casino operator, Aspers, has announced it is to make a significant investment to refurbish its north east venue, Aspers Casino at the Gate.

Aspers will invest in the region of £750,000 to refresh and partially remodel the 45,000sqft Newcastle venue, transforming the former Lady O’s bar, situated downstairs overlooking China Town, into a lively sports bar showing a host of sports and all major sporting events including football, American football, extreme sports, boxing, rugby, cricket and everything in between. Whilst this type of bar is not unique to Aspers, it is the only casino in the region to have this feature.

In addition, Freya’s Restaurant will be refreshed to provide diners with a more vibrant, fresh and all round more contemporary dining experience, Aspers are also introducing an exciting new menu featuring an array of new dishes. Also further work will be carried out to The Gate entrance of Aspers, to transform an existing reception area and create a brand new slots machine area. Unlike the main gaming floor this new area, which will appeal to the more casual gamer, will feature gaming machines with a maximum jackpot payout of £500.

This latest investment comes almost seven years after Aspers first arrived on Tyneside and demonstrates the operator’s commitment to its almost 300,000 members and to the region, as it is anticipated that a number of new jobs will also be created. Guests and visitors are being reassured that it will be business as usual when work commences this September. Speaking about its success on Tyneside and its reputation as one of the UK’s leading casino operators, Asper’s at The Gate’s general manager, Ally Myles said:

“We are delighted to make this announcement and significant investment in Aspers Newcastle. After being open for seven years we continue to see an average weekly footfall of over 15,000 visitors making us one of the region’s leading gaming, dining and leisure outlets and we want to maintain that status. Moving away from the more traditional casino interior, our new look will create a more inviting and modern setting for members and guests to enjoy their leisure time.

“We are currently benefitting from an increase in footfall and feel that in order to maintain this and the high standards Aspers are known for, it is important to make this investment. As it is likely to lead to further job creation, we also feel we are making a positive contribution to the local economy.”

Aspers’ new interior will match that of its most recent addition to the operator’s portfolio, its super casino, situated at the Westfield Shopping Centre, Stratford.

Once work commences in September it is expected to take eight weeks to complete.
