Local events firm prepare for Great North Run

R&B Group are readily preparing for this weekend’s Great North Run, and Bdaily spoke to Head of Projects, Richard Goodaire, ahead of the event.

He told us about how R&B Group are involved, and what he is looking forward to for the weekend of sporting achievements.

“The Great North Run is something R&B Group are proud to be involved in. We’re going to be supporting the event in two main areas. The “Boost Zone” at John Reid Road in South Shields is at the 10 mile mark, where we will be stationed to give runners that final “boost” to make it to the finish line. There will be a DJ playing out music for the athletes and supporters, and we’ll be giving out jelly beans and Vaseline at the station too.”

“We’re also looking after the “Gypsies Green” area around the BUPA marquee at the finishing area. R&B Group will be setting up PA systems and massive plasma screens to make the event really visually exciting. We’ll be playing the race over the big screen while the race is on, and then later replaying it for runners to see themselves cross over the finish line.”

As project manager for the Great North Run, Richard told Bdaily about what it was like to be involved in such a big event.

“This is R&B Group’s 6th year supporting the BUPA Great North Run. We also worked on the Great Manchester Run back in May, and we’re looking forward to the Great Portsmouth Run in October.”

“The Great North Run is especially important to us, because we are based in the North East. It’s great to see 55,000 people come past you. I’ve worked on all the races except one with R&B, and it’s always an amazing atmosphere. It’s brilliant day to be a part of, and it’s so iconic for the North East, so it should be a fantastic day.”

Athletes running in the Great North Run will set off from Newcastle on Sunday morning, and finish over 13 miles down the road in South Shields.
