SES Records Zero Accidents For Second Year Running

As the number of employees fatally and seriously injured at work has reduced by two-thirds compared with 20 years ago, one company making its own positive contribution to that important reduction is Shepherd Engineering Services (SES).

SES is proud to announce that it has recorded an accident free year for the second consecutive year. The end of July marked this significant milestone, seeing SES outperform its competitors and general industry as a whole.

Not one of SES’s 700 direct employees suffered a RIDDOR Reportable accident for two years and this equated to a period of some 2,687,913 hours worked.

Tony Sidwell, SES’s head of safety, health, environment and quality, stated this outstanding achievement is a credit to all concerned and is due to the input, awareness and proactive approach of all employees. He said:

“As we work in high risk environments and carry out high risk activities our workforce are exceptionally well trained to carry out their daily tasks in a safe and responsible manner. Without this high level of awareness and a pro-active attitude, we are all too aware that accidents on sites can, unfortunately, be a regular occurrence.

“We have significant and stringent audit and inspection processes in place, all of which evolve and are fully embraced and supported at board level, filtering through the business. Safety is second nature to all in our business and is embedded in all our work patterns.

“In addition to this, we have recently introduced our ‘Think Safety’ campaign which is designed to raise further awareness and encourage all employees to take time out to check that all safety requirements are dealt with prior to the commencement of any work task.”

SES’s regional director for the north east, Steve Joyce added:

“We are exceptionally proud of our enviable and exemplary safety record. This latest achievement is a testament to the efforts of our entire workforce, the proactive safety leadership of our managers and, in all, it is something that we can justifiably be proud of.”

SES is currently operating on approximately 60 sites throughout the UK in a diverse range of sectors including education, healthcare, aviation and waste.
