Eagles stars get a good night’s sleep

Newcastle Eagles’ basketball team are starting the new season on top form after scoring a good night’s sleep courtesy of luxury mattress manufacturer 1907 Beds.

The North East company is supplying six extra-long custom-made beds to Eagles players as part of its exclusive sponsorship package. Handmade to order, the mattresses have been specially crafted to accommodate the trademark height of six of its key players from both the men’s and women’s teams.

The players who hail from all over the world including Bulgaria, the USA, Lithuania and the UK will be based in the North East throughout the nine month 2012/13 season or for the duration of their university scholarships.

Ranging from 6’2“ to 7’ in height, the players can struggle to achieve a comfortable night’s sleep in standard size mattresses, meaning the tailor-made solution provides the perfect answer.

1907 Beds and its sister company Palatine Bedshas been sponsoring the Newcastle Eagles for three seasons. In addition to provision of the custom-made mattresses, the new deal saw the company host a lively timeout competition at the opening match of the season (Friday 21st September) whereby two contestants played for Newcastle Eagles and 1907 voucher and goodies, by shooting the most balls through a unique hoop made out of a 1907 mattress. The court was also adorned with 1907 foam hands, a ringside advertising board, an advert in the Eagles’ programme and 1907 flyers with an exclusive offer for fans.

Andrew Waters, sales and marketing managerfor 1907 Beds said: “Extra length mattresses are not widely found in the UK, as we are able to produce bespoke natural and memory foam mattresses to any specification we were more than happy to use our expertise to craft the required mattresses and support our local basketball team in their bid to win the championship.”

Newcastle Eagles player Joel Madouriesaid: “As professional sportsmen and women we know just how important getting a good nights’ sleep is to your mental and physical health but as one of several Eagles players over 6ft I do find standard size beds don’t quite measure up. Being sponsored by 1907 and receiving one of their extremely comfortable, extra-long mattresses is fantastic for helping me and my team mates get a restful night – and we’re relieved not to have cold feet in the morning!”
